It is clearly a shame I don't have 02000000000 as I bet that gets a lot of calls.
Apparently a doctors surgery has a message saying it is closed but if you need help call 02000200000. Clearly some system expecting a valid format number and someone making up...
And Thrall gets the calls. Whatever next I wonder.
I did explain that it was clearly a made up number, and the fact it rang anyone was something of a fluke.
I have to be more cryptic on these calls - after they agree it is clearly a made up number, yet they got me, who the hell am I?.... "It is a good job you don't know who I am" perhaps... "You obviously don't have security clearance"... etc.

It's a shame you can't put a fax on that line - set it up as a reverse fax service that sends a nasty document (e.g. all black paper, with white text saying "You did not want this number. This is not the number you were looking for."
ReplyDeleteSticking to voice, if you want to sound official and pompous, answer the call with "Cabinet Office SPF. Which List X site are you calling about?" When they get confused, demand the reference number for their BPSS vetting.
If they're clued, they'll recognise that you're bullshitting. If they're not, and they Google search the terms, they will find a whole pile of stuff talking about national security clearances. If they don't search, they will be bewildered, and worrying about just what they've tripped over.
